Handmade in Britain is an annual contemporary craft and design fair at the beautiful Chelsea Old Town Hall. Taking place over three days from Friday 9 – Sunday 11 November 2018, the event will celebrate the best in high-end design and craftsmanship from over 100 highly-skilled, UK-based designer-makers. It’s a fabulous opportunity to shop for gorgeous textiles, jewellery, ceramics, glass and more from a handpicked selection of designer-makers. Makers will be on hand throughout the weekend to talk about their work and showcase their collections.
Very happy to announce I'll be exhibiting at this great London show in The Truman Brewery in September. Its free to get in and has lots of fabulous designers makers on show.
I am taking Sophie Darling down to Port Eliot Arts and Literary Festival later this month and I need a fabulous hands on assistant to be my number one go to helper for entirety of the festival. Its a great opportunity for someone to immerse themselves in Sophie Darling at a really lovely arts festival in a beautiful Cornish setting.
The role will include, setting up the marquee, setting up the shop interior, being the face of Sophie Darling including running the stand with me from Friday when the festival opens til close on Sunday. De-rigging on Monday.
I'll provide, tickets, transport there and back and expenses. The festival is a totally gorgeous and on the most beautiful site in Cornwall. You'll be getting fantastic work experience and enjoying the festival as well as selling and getting to know the label Sophie Darling.
Dates are Wednesday 24th to Monday the 30th July.
Send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org with a short paragraph on what you think you have what it takes to be the face of the Darling. Add a couple of details about yourself and what makes you the ideal person for the job.
Whilst no experience is necessary, experience in fashion, retail, buying, or just being fabulous then let me know. All you really need is a really great work ethic, be really friendly with an unfailingly positive attitude.
There's something about a collaboration that I love. From the first meeting where you sketch out ideas and drink coffee, to innovative sampling and then the finished article. It adds a whole new level to my work and my collab with the gorgeous Ellie Mac Embroidery is no exception.
d take about 4 weeks to produce. From the hand printed designs to the embroidered detail and finally the making they are a labour of love.
Gosh, that went quick, is it really 5 months since last we spoke?! Time seems to fly by faster than ever at the moment and the older I get the faster it seems to go! I always like to email when I have something exciting to shout about. And this time I cant stop shouting because I am so excited to announce my next pop up.
We've been doing pop ups in various sites over the last few years but this year having done a large amount of renovations on my home I thought what better location for this springs seasonal launch than the Darling homestead. Its the most perfect backdrop, space, style, G&T on tap. Lovely.
So whats the plan...we open on the Friday the 11th May at 6. We'll be having drinks that evening til 9.30, hopefully basking in some sunshine whilst perusing the new collection and supping on a cold glass of Prosecco.
We'll then be open Saturday and Sunday 11-6. That's it. Yes, I know this is short, and that's why I will seriously need you guys to focus and book the time in your crazy diaries so you don't miss out.
I am doing things a little differently this year with a live print workshop on the Saturday (only) you'll be able to bring along a t' of your own which we will customize with a Sophie Darling classic print for a small fee.
Very importantly I will also have my gorgeous colleagues and friends Holly M, and Sorrel Bay Fine Jewels, who also have plenty to shout about. You NEED to see. Please pop onto their websites to see their current collections.
And now for some pictures.....
We'll have 2 collections on show this May. Our ready to wear pieces which are all hand printed at Darling Studios, including our quintessential scarves and sweatshirts. We are re-releasing a classic design with embroidered detail by the stunningly talented Ellie Mac. We'll also have tee's, sweatshirt dresses, loose summer sack dresses and cool custom made tee's.
Then there is our To Order collection. This is where you'll find all our bomber jackets, sports tanks, jump suits, and our much anticipated denim jackets that are a collaboration between myself and Ellie Mac.
Really rather gorgeous
Then there is our samples and things that frankly need to move on darling
Lastly, (then I'll let you go) I really don't know if I showed you this before, but I have been working with The House of Artists releasing 5 prints as wall murals. They really are stunning and I am very lucky to have one in my house! which you can see when you come to the pop up.
Available to order through The House of Artists. Please follow the link to see more!
Sale time darlings. Via instagram stories. Lots of hand printed beauties up for grabs. Just DM me if there is something you like, first come first served!
how's things going? The Christmas hour is upon us once again and I cant wait! Its been a massive year! Its always around this time I like to open the doors of a pop up shop in our founding home town of Brighton and this year is no exception.
Pop along to see us at 40 Gloucester Road to see myself, Marie from Sorrel Bay, Holly and her leather work and our guest this year Grace Wilmshurst and her paintings. We'd love to see you.....
Now this is going to be fun, I've been pondering this festival for a year or 2. I had it earmarked as something special and something that I would like to take The Darling too. And this year, its all come together having been excepted as one of the inspiring little fashion labels to be there.
More artisan than art alone, with individual crafts people accross fashion, art, drama, spoken word, cookery and of course music! This is no ordinary festival, its really got innovation and inspiration down to a fine art.
I'll be posting lots of footage I hope. So keep an eye. X
A lovely blog post featuring me answering lots of questions penned by the fabulous Emma Harris. Pop along to her site have a read and then have a mooch about. There's some really wonderful things on there.
